The Pain Institute of Nevada was founded in 1989 to provide specialized medical services to the Southern Nevada community for those patients with painful conditions which have not resolved in the expected time nor with routine medical treatment.
Patients referred to the Pain Institute are first evaluated by one of the physicians, Walter M. Kidwell, M.D. (Anesthesiology), Kenneth Y. Hampar, M.D. (Anesthesiology), or Daniel M. Lorenzo, M.D. (Anesthesiolgy). As stated above, these clinicians are not seeing pain patients as a sideline to their primary medical practice. Treating pain patients is their primary medical practice.
Following initial evaluation, the patient and the referring party (physician, claims agent, attorney, etc.) will be informed as to the findings and the recommended treatment plan. The treatment plan may involve further diagnostic evaluation with testing or consultation, or a number of treatment options, ranging from conservative to aggressive, depending on the state of the pain and the patients ability to function or state of disability. The patient, clinicians, and referring party will then decide on a plan, which the staff of the Pain Institute will assist in implementing.
We can provide most treatments for painful conditions, ranging from conservative ones such as medication management, physical therapy, and psychological (behavioral) treatment, to more advanced ones involving injection therapy, to the most aggressive involving nerve destruction procedures (neurolysis) with RFTC and implantable pain control devices (spinal cord stimulators and spinal infusion pumps). Whatever treatment is chosen, the goal remains the same: To optimize the patients function and give him or her a more independent, productive and enjoyable quality of life.
